Meet Jarvis

Jarvis-Bot is the Socks and Sandals Discord's helper. It runs raid sign-ups for The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, plays music in voice channels, and keeps track of who joins and leaves the server.

Everything is done with buttons or slash commands: type / in any channel and pick a Jarvis command.

Signing up for raids Everyone

Each raid is one message in the sign-up channel, laid out like Raid-Helper: the notes and loot rules, who's leading, when it is, how many have signed up, the role totals, then the roster: tanks first, then everyone else by class. Each player shows their spec icon, their sign-up number (the order people signed up) and their name.

  1. Click your class button on the raid post.
  2. A private message (only you see it) asks for your spec. Click it.
  3. You're in, with your number in the sign-up order. Your spec decides your role: Protection Warrior โ†’ Tank, Holy Priest โ†’ Healer, Fury Warrior โ†’ Melee, Fire Mage โ†’ Ranged, and so on. The post updates straight away.

Changed your mind? Click a class again and pick a different spec. Death Knight only appears on Wrath raids.

The other buttons

ButtonWhat it does
Tentative"Maybe." You're listed under Tentative, not in the roster. Works without picking a class, but picking one helps officers plan.
LateYou're coming but will be late. You still count in the roster and are marked โฐ. Pick your class first.
BenchYou're happy to sit out and fill in if needed.
AbsenceYou can't make it. Lets officers know you saw the raid.
RemoveTakes you off the raid completely.
TipPress Tentative, Late, Bench or Absence a second time to clear it and go back to a normal sign-up.

Full roles and the automatic bench

Raids can have a tank and healer limit, and every raid is capped at its size (10 or 25). If you sign up as a role that's full, you go to the Bench, marked (auto). If a spot opens, the first person in line is moved in automatically and gets a DM from Jarvis.

Reminders and closing time

  • Shortly before the raid (30 minutes unless the officer changed it), Jarvis DMs everyone signed up, late or tentative.
  • Sign-ups close at the raid start, or earlier if the officer set a deadline. After that the buttons stop working; ask an officer if you need a change.
  • If a raid is cancelled, everyone signed up gets a DM.
Not getting DMs?Allow direct messages from server members: right-click the server icon โ†’ Privacy Settings โ†’ turn on Direct Messages.

Raid times Everyone

Every raid shows two times:

  • Server time (Nightslayer): the realm clock, the one people say in guild chat ("raid at 7:30 server").
  • Your time (the ๐Ÿ“… line, with the weekday): the same moment converted to your clock and date by your Discord app, wherever you live. Someone in Central time sees 8:30 PM, someone on the East Coast sees 9:30 PM.

Nightslayer runs on US Mountain time, one hour behind Central, all year round. Discord doesn't share anyone's time zone with bots, so the "your time" line can't print a zone name like "CST", but the time shown is yours.

Soft reserves Everyone

On a Soft-Res raid, the post says how many items each raider can reserve and has a ๐Ÿ“ Set soft reserves button. Click it to open the raid's soft-res sheet in your browser and pick your items. The button stays on the post even after sign-ups close, until the raid starts.

If it says "link coming soon", the officer hasn't added this week's sheet yet. Check back later.

Music Everyone

Join a voice channel, then use /play. Jarvis joins your channel and starts playing.

CommandWhat it does
/play queryPlay or queue a song. The query can be search words ("tavern music"), a YouTube link or playlist, or a Spotify track, album or playlist link.
/pause ยท /resumePause and carry on.
/skipSkip the current song.
/queueWhat's playing and what's next.
/nowplayingThe current song, how far in, and a link.
/shuffleShuffle the queue.
/volume 1-100Set the volume (starts at 50).
/stopStop, clear the queue and leave the channel.
  • Spotify links work by finding each song on YouTube, so now and then you may get a live or alternate version. Up to 200 songs are added from one playlist or album.
  • Spotify's own playlists (Discover Weekly, Daily Mix, Today's Top Hits) can't be read. Copy the songs into a playlist of your own.
  • Jarvis leaves when everyone else has left the channel, or after 5 minutes with nothing queued.
  • When music starts, Jarvis posts a one-line reminder of these commands (at most once every 30 minutes per channel).
  • Jarvis can only join voice channels its role is allowed into. If it says it can't join, ask an officer (see Permissions).

Creating a raid: guided setup Officers

Officers are members with the Officers role (or Manage Server). Run /raid setup anywhere in the server and Jarvis walks you through it in a DM, one step at a time. You can cancel at any step.

  1. Expansion: The Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King.
  2. Raid: pick from the list, or Custom title (first in the list) to type your own, for example a combined night like Black Temple + Hyjal; custom raids then ask the size.
TBC (size set automatically): Karazhan and Zul'Aman (10) ยท Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon's Lair, Gruul + Magtheridon, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep: The Eye, Mount Hyjal, Black Temple, Sunwell Plateau (25)
Wrath: Naxxramas, Obsidian Sanctum, Eye of Eternity, Vault of Archavon, Onyxia's Lair, Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader, Icecrown Citadel, Ruby Sanctum
  3. Size: 10 or 25 (Wrath and custom titles only).
  4. Details: a form for the title (pre-filled with the raid name), date, start time in server time, and notes. Dates: 2026-10-21, 10/21, a weekday like wed, today or tomorrow. Times: 20:00, 8pm or 7:30pm. Jarvis shows the current server time to help.
  5. Channel: where to post. Only channels Jarvis can post in are listed.
  6. Repeat: once, every week, or every 2 weeks.
  7. Loot: Loot Council, Soft-Res, MS > OS, or not shown. Soft-Res asks how many items each raider can reserve and for the soft-res link (optional, can be added later).
  8. Ping: a role to mention when the raid is posted (for example @Member - Socks), or no ping.
  9. Picture: send an image right there in the DM to show on the post and the ping, or press Skip.
  10. Limits and timings: keep the defaults or change them: tank and healer limits, when sign-ups close, the reminder DM, and (for repeats) how many days ahead each one is posted.

Finally you get a preview of exactly how the post will look, with Post it, Start over and Cancel. Each step waits up to 15 minutes. Running /raid setup again starts a fresh one.

Creating a raid: quick command Officers

If you know what you want, /raid create does it in one line. The title box suggests raid names as you type.

Managing raids Officers

Each raid has a number (its event), shown at the bottom of the post. In the commands below, the event box lists upcoming raids so you can just pick one.

CommandWhat it does
/raid editChange the title, date, time, notes, limits, deadline, reminder, picture or loot rules. Add also_repeats:True to use the new settings (everything except date and time) for future repeats too.
/raid addSign someone up yourself, with class, spec and status. Works after sign-ups close.
/raid removeTake someone off a raid.
/raid cancelMark the raid cancelled (the post stays, greyed out) and DM everyone signed up.
/raid deleteDelete the post and its sign-ups. No DMs are sent.
/raid listUpcoming raids and repeating raids (anyone can use this).
/raid stop-repeatStop a repeating raid. Raids already posted stay.
Deleting a repeating raiddeletes only that week. Use /raid stop-repeat to stop future ones; the series number is in /raid list.

Repeating raids Officers

A repeating raid posts itself every week or every 2 weeks, at the same server time. Each one is posted post_ahead days before it starts, at its start time (6 days by default). So a weekly Wednesday 7:30 PM raid appears the Thursday before at 7:30 PM, right around when the last one finishes.

  • Daylight saving doesn't move it: 7:30 PM server stays 7:30 PM server.
  • If Jarvis were offline past a raid's start, it skips that one rather than posting a raid that already happened.
  • Each week is its own post with its own sign-ups.

Loot rules Officers

Loot Council
Officers decide who gets what.
MS > OS
Main spec rolls beat off spec rolls.
Soft-Res
Each raider reserves a set number of items on a soft-res sheet (for example softres.it). The post gets a Set soft reserves button.

Soft-Res each week

Soft-res sheets are usually new every week. When a repeating Soft-Res raid is posted, Jarvis DMs the officer who set it up with the exact command to add that week's sheet:

/raid edit event:12 sr_url:https://softres.it/raid/abc123

Use sr_url:- to remove a link. Giving a soft-res link or item count to a raid switches it to Soft-Res automatically.

Roster rules Officers

  • Signed and Late count toward the roster and the role limits; Tentative, Bench and Absence don't.
  • The raid size (10 or 25) is always the cap. Tank and healer limits are optional (0 = no limit).
  • Over-limit sign-ups go to the bench as (auto) and move in by themselves, oldest first, with a DM.
  • At the deadline the sign-up buttons stop working. Officers can still use /raid add and /raid remove.
  • 3 hours after the start the raid is finished and its buttons are removed.

Member tracking Officers

Discord only tells bots someone's account name when they leave, not the nickname they used in the guild. Jarvis keeps its own record of every member's server nickname, roles, join date and earlier names, so its reports say who they actually were.

  • Leaves, kicks and bans are posted in the log channel: server nickname, display name, username, join date, time in the server, roles, earlier names, and for kicks and bans who did it and why.
  • Rejoins: when a former member comes back, Jarvis posts what they were called before and the roles they had.
  • People who leave while Jarvis is offline are reported when it starts again.
CommandWhat it does
/whois name or IDFind a current or former member by any name they've had (nickname, display name or username).
/departures [count]The most recent people to leave, be kicked or be banned.

Both reply privately and need Manage Server by default. Jarvis only knows names from the day it joined; anyone who left before that can't be looked up.

Spotify, reminders and upkeep Server owner

Spotify login (for playlist links)

Spotify only lists a playlist's songs to a logged-in user, so the server owner logs Jarvis in once:

  1. Run /spotify-login (only you see the reply) and open the link.
  2. Approve. Jarvis only asks to read playlists.
  3. Your browser lands on a 127.0.0.1 page that doesn't load. That's expected. Copy the whole address.
  4. Run /spotify-code and paste it, within a few minutes. Jarvis confirms the Spotify account.

This also makes the owner's private playlists playable. The login renews itself.

Reminder DMs to the owner

  • From 3 days before the Spotify login is 180 days old, Jarvis DMs the owner every day until /spotify-login is run again.
  • If Spotify ever refuses the login or the app's secret, Jarvis DMs the owner that day.

Music announcements

/announce off stops the "Now playing" messages in chat; /announce on brings them back (Manage Server). Problem notices and the command reminder still post.

Upkeep

  • Jarvis restarts itself every day at 5:00 AM Central (4:00 server time), and waits if music is playing. It updates its YouTube tool on each start, so music keeps working when YouTube changes.
  • Member records, raids and settings are kept through restarts and updates, with a daily backup.
  • The bot is monitored; if it stops responding the admins are alerted.

Permissions Admins

Jarvis can only see and use channels its Jarvis-Bot role is allowed in. For private channels, open Edit Channel โ†’ Permissions, add the Jarvis-Bot role and allow:

ChannelAllow
Raid sign-up channelsView Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files
Voice channels for musicView Channel, Connect, Speak
Log channel (member reports)View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links

Jarvis checks before it posts or joins and tells you exactly which permission is missing.

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to do
"I can't join #channel: my role needs โ€ฆ"Add the Jarvis-Bot role to that voice channel with View Channel, Connect and Speak.
"I can't post in #channel โ€ฆ" when creating a raidAdd the Jarvis-Bot role to the channel with View, Send, Embed Links and Attach Files.
"Sign-ups for this raid are closed"The deadline has passed. Ask an officer to add you with /raid add.
"Spotify won't share that one"It's a Spotify-made playlist or someone else's private one. Copy the songs into your own playlist.
"Spotify playlists need a one-time Spotify login"The server owner runs /spotify-login (see Owner).
"I can't DM you" from /raid setup, or no remindersAllow DMs from server members: server icon โ†’ Privacy Settings โ†’ Direct Messages.
A song won't playJarvis skips it and plays the next one. Try a different search or link.
"Only officers can do that"Raid management needs the Officers role or Manage Server.
